Central control panel showing live animal statistics, recent rescue activities, and key operational metrics at a glance
RRSA India, one of India's leading animal welfare NGOs, was managing thousands of rescue records on spreadsheets and paper logs. We built them a comprehensive full-stack web application — real-time tracking, automated reminders, role-based access, and government-ready reporting — delivered in 3 months.

Overview of the shelter management system's full capabilities, modules, and organizational structure
RRSA India was managing thousands of animal rescue records across multiple shelter locations using spreadsheets and physical paper logs. This meant unreliable tracking of rescued, treated, and adopted animals, missed vaccinations and treatments, no centralized access for volunteers, vets, and administrators working across locations, and zero audit trail for government or donor reporting. The system had outgrown manual management completely.
We built a full-stack web application using React for the frontend, Node.js and Express as middleware, and Firebase Firestore for real-time data operations. The system delivers real-time updates across all devices and locations, role-based dashboards for admins, staff, volunteers, and veterinarians, cloud-based photo uploads and medical documentation, automated vaccination reminders, and one-click report generation for government and donor submissions. Firebase Authentication handles secure access across all user types.
Every content element was designed with a specific growth or trust-building objective in mind.
Measurable growth delivered within 3 months of engagement — all organic, zero paid ads.
Animal records now retrieved in under 2 seconds — previously took 5–10 minutes through paper logs
Zero missed vaccinations after automation — previously 15–20 missed per month
Data loss reduced to near zero with Firebase auto-sync — previously a common and costly problem
Donor and government reports now downloaded instantly — previously manual and error-prone
New staff fully trained in under 2 hours — previously took 2+ days
All devices sync in real time across every shelter location simultaneously
Key obstacles we navigated and how we solved each one.
Challenge
Many of RRSA India's shelter locations had poor or intermittent internet connectivity — a cloud-based system that required constant connection would have been unusable in the field.
Solution
Implemented Firebase's offline persistence feature so the system functions fully without active internet, syncing automatically the moment connectivity is restored.
Challenge
Every animal record required multiple photos and medical documents — storing and loading large volumes of images efficiently was critical for performance.
Solution
Used Firebase Cloud Storage with an image compression pipeline to optimize upload sizes and ensure fast loading across all devices and connection speeds.
Challenge
The system needed to serve four completely different user types — admins, staff, volunteers, and veterinarians — each with different access levels and dashboard views.
Solution
Implemented Firebase Authentication with custom claims to build a comprehensive role-based access system, giving each user type exactly the view and permissions they needed — nothing more, nothing less.
Challenge
Years of existing animal records stored across spreadsheets and paper files needed to be migrated into the new system safely, without data loss or corruption.
Solution
Built automated migration tools with built-in data validation and backup systems to transfer all historical records cleanly before the system went live.
